Jonathan Blair Biser

Jonathan Blair Biser is a partner at Hardison & Cochran and heads the law firm’s busy Social Security Disability division. His goal is to make the complicated and bureaucratic process of obtaining disability benefits as simple as possible for clients.

“It can be a slow process to begin with,” he says. “But we do our best to help our clients maneuver through the process as efficiently as possible.”

Biser got his introduction to Social Security Disability law when he was an undergraduate at Wake Forest University. He worked in his uncle’s law office, where the primary focus was Social Security cases, and he developed an initial interest in that area of law.

After getting a B.A. in psychology in 2002, Biser enrolled at North Carolina Central University School of Law, where he was a staff member on the Law Review and chaired the student Trial Advocacy Board. During his third year, he acquired courtroom experience as a student attorney in the district attorney’s office. He graduated, magna cum laude, in 2005 and immediately joined Hardison & Cochran.

His work in the firm encompasses a wide range of activities, from assisting clients in filing their initial SSD applications to guiding them through the appeals processes. He frequently represents clients at administrative hearings and has argued numerous cases, on appeal, in the Eastern and Middle U.S. District Courts for North Carolina.

Often, the amount of time it takes to secure benefits and appeal denied disability claims can cause frustration for clients. When that happens, Biser knows how important it is to be there for them.

“You have to be empathetic toward people’s conditions because it can be a long process and people can lose a lot,” he says. “We try to do everything we can to make it as short a process as possible.”

In the end, the satisfactions can make everything worthwhile.

“I enjoy it when I can walk out of a hearing and let a client know that help is on the way,” he says.

In 2010, the North Carolina State Bar named Biser as a Board Certified Specialist in Social Security Law, indicating that he has received special training and passed an exam in this area of law. He also is a frequent speaker on Social Security Disability topics.

Biser serves his community as a board member of the Center for Volunteer Caregiving, a nonprofit organization that assists people who are homebound and need help. He is also active in Greenwood Forest Baptist Church, serving as chair of its Finance Ministry and singing in the choir.

He enjoys photography, travel, and music.
