To date more than 100,000 motorcyclists have lost their lives as the result of a motorcycle crash. Some statistics say an average of twelve motorcyclists die every day. Recent studies show that motorcycle fatalities in any given year is double the total number of deaths resulting from all other forms of travel combined, including trains, planes and automobiles. The number of fatal motorcycle crashes has declined over the last decade; however, fatalities resulting from severe or disabling injuries sustained in motorcycle crashes have not. The decrease in fatal crashes is thanks in part to motorcyclists following guidelines recommended by safety programs such as the National Highway Safety and Motor Vehicle Safety Act. Preventative measures like wearing helmets and obtaining valid motorcycle licenses have kept many bikers safe. Knowing how to protect yourself while riding can make a world of difference in how being involved in a motorcycle accident can affect your life, family and future.
