Hardison & Cochran to Sponsor Campbell Law Student Negotiation Teams at the ABA Negotiation Competition

Hardison & Cochran, Attorneys at Law is pleased to offer financial sponsorship to two teams of Campbell Law students to take part in the American Bar Association Negotiation Competition in New York City.

Campbell Law School Dean J. Rich Leonard, who announced the sponsorships, said Hardison & Cochran had paved the way financially for law student advocates many times in recent years, and the law school was blessed to enjoy the support of Hardison & Cochran.

“Their gifts provide the opportunity for our students to learn, get competitive experience, and show the rest of the country how our first-class advocacy program is molding the future leading attorneys of tomorrow,” Leonard said. “We are in debt to them for their generosity.”

In March, Hardison & Cochran provided financial support for a Campbell Law student advocate team to take part in the Seigenthaler-Sutherland Cup National First Amendment Moot Court Competition.

The ABA Law Student Division Negotiation Competition is designed to promote interest among law students in legal negotiation, while offering a forum for students to hone their negotiating skills through simulations of a series of legal problems. The simulations include a common set of facts for all students to work from, as well as confidential information known to only one side in a negotiation.

Campbell Law students Brian Castro and Chris Fordham make up one negotiation team, while Sarah Clark and Megan Foy comprise the other team. Both teams are coached by Andrew R. Shores, a 2013 Campbell Law graduate and associate attorney at Williams Mullen.

Students must negotiate under time constraints and in an area of law in which they are unfamiliar. The competition promotes the development of the students’ communication skills and ability to assess quickly the needs and interests of their client and adversary.
