NC State Fair Safety Tips

As most of us know, the anticipated North Carolina State Fair is starting tomorrow! People across the state have been looking forward to experiencing the rides the fair will offer, playing carnival games, seeing the animals, enjoying live music and much more. You can buy tickets, get directions and see an attraction list on the linked website.

At Hardison & Cochran, our concern is your safety during this beloved event. In order to make this day as fun and safe as possible, we would like to provide you with some safety tips:

  1. Stay with your group at all times- if possible, wear matching or same-color t-shirts to distinguish your buddies from the crowd.
  2. Drive with caution- be more mindful than usual of pedestrians on the road and of frequent stops by cars due to heavy event traffic- don’t follow too closely!
  3. Be aware of your surroundings- not all fellow fair-goers are there for the same reasons- try to carry the least amount of cash as possible (we know some will be necessary); keep your handbag close and/or your wallet in your front pocket. Be aware of and report any stranger following you on the fairgrounds or in the parking lot. If someone’s behavior is making you uncomfortable in any way, find an officer: better safe than sorry. If you see something, say something.
  4. Be prepared for the weather- stay hydrated throughout the day and bring a sweater for colder temperatures at night- maybe even pack a raincoat for any surprise showers! Always wear sunscreen if you will be outdoors for extended periods of time, no matter the season.
  5. Wear secure clothing- if you plan on enjoying the rides, it is best to wear secure, close-toed shoes. We would also suggest a hip pack or other garment that can secure your cell phone
  6. On that note- if you drop your cellphone, UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES should you go looking for it under the ride from which you dropped it- this has proven to be extremely dangerous. Take any warning or caution signs around any ride or attraction very seriously.
  7. Pay attention to the foods you are putting into your body- we know this is supposed to be a fun and relaxing day, but eating highly processed foods, deep-fried foods, foods high in fat and/or sugar and/or sodium, as well as the consumption of red meat in general, is extremely dangerous for your health. Southern cuisine/food culture may be fun, simple, delicious, and close to our hearts, but if we don’t enjoy it in moderation, it will stop our hearts.

We hope you take all of this into consideration while you are having a blast at the North Carolina State Fair this year! If something unexpected happens, please don’t hesitate to give us a call.
