The Flu and You: Staying Healthy This Holiday Season

No doubt, you have people who depend on you. Your significant other, children, coworkers and even your pets. As the Holiday season ramps up and you begin to go to parties and  family get-togethers, the last thing you want to be is sick. Additionally, since its likely you’ll be around more people this time of year, you also don’t want to walk into a party healthy and leave with a sickness someone else brought to the party. Below we have gathered some information from across the internet that will help you stay healthy this Holiday season.

Seasonal Influenza (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention)
Stats. Facts. Charts. Graphs. This page has it all. It even has a weekly updated snapshot of the geographic spread of the flu in the United States. At the time of this post, North Carolina’s status is currently “sporadic.” The site also features a detailed page about the seasonal flu vaccine.

Flu Symptoms (WebMD)
Do I have the flu or is this just a cold? After looking at this website, you’ll have the information to answer that question. With that being said, no website should replace a visit to a doctor. If you’re feeling awful, go to the doctor. If you’re just feeling a little under the weather, check out this website to see if those small symptoms you have are leading to something else a lot worse.

Colds and Flu at Work (WebMD)
Here’s a fact for you: Each year, between 5% and 20% of Americans get the flu and miss a staggering 70 million work days as a result. This page shares some tips and tricks to keep the flu out of the workplace. The advice is pretty straight-forward and chances are you can already list them out, but a little refresher never hurt anyone.

Children and the Flu (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention)
Did you know each year 20,000 children under the age of 5 are hospitalized due to influenza complications. A sick child is no fun. No fun at all. If you have a big family, you’re not only fighting the sickness of one child. You’re trying to keep it from spreading to the rest of the family. This page shares some tips and facts about the flu in children.
