Raleigh’s Hillsborough Street Roundabout Going to One Lane Due To High Accident Rates

Raleighs Hillsborough Street Roundabout

If you have visited North Carolina State’s campus on Hillsbourough Street in Raleigh, chances are you have navigated yourself around the double laned roundabout near the Belltower. That specific roundabout will be seeing some changes in the next month as the City of Raleigh aims to cut down on high accidents rates.

The roundabout has been the scene of 100 crashes in the past 20 months with many of these accidents being minor fender benders. The reason the roundabout was originally constructed in 2010 at this location was due to a history of violent crashes where serious injuries were sustained at Pullen Rd. That goal seems to have been accomplished, but the City of Raleigh felt more should be done.

The planned renovations will hopefully cut down on confusion and keep drivers, walkers, runners and students passing through a little bit safer. The renovations should be completed by the end of July.

For more information on the renovations at the Belltower Roundabout, please check out this article from the News & Observer.
