A traumatic brain injury (TBI) has the potential to change a person's life more than any other injury.  Even a minor brain injury from a bump or fall can cause a person to suffer from memory loss, emotional distress, amnesia and changed personality.  A brain injury can essentially transform a victim into a different person that neither the victim nor his or her family recognizes.

According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, nearly 1.4 million people in the United States suffer from a traumatic brain injury each year -- and 50,000 of these victims die.   The lives of survivors and the lives of their families can sometimes be drastically changed.  Brain injuries can impair a victim's ability to work and how they interact with others.  Some find that they have lost the ability to concentrate, and they suffer from mood swings and depression.  Other victims are unable to care for themselves following a brain injury.

What To Do Right After An Accident?

Having an accident can be a very stressful situation whether you are injured or not. However, there are a few things you can do right after an accident to make the ordeal a little less stressful. First, at the scene get as much information as you can about the other party. Get the driver’s name, address, phone number and license plate number. If there are any witnesses that saw the accident and come to check on you, get the witness’s name, address and phone number. Many times witnesses leave before the police arrive. However, if you have this information you can give it to the police officer and she/he can follow-up with the witness if there is a dispute as to what happened in the accident.
