He called his development Cary, after Samuel Fenton Cary, a prohibition leader from Ohio whom Page admired. The Page-Walker Arts & History Center, built in 1868 by Allison Francis Page as a hotel, now houses the Cary Heritage Museum.

Cary is near Raleigh, Chapel and Durham, the three towns that form the Research Triangle, or “The Triangle.” The Triangle is home to the Research Triangle Park, a globally prominent high-technology research and development center. The SAS Institute Inc., headquartered in Cary, is the town’s largest employer and one of the largest privately-held software corporations in the world. Other prominent companies in Cary include MCI WorldCom, IBM, the American Airlines Reservation Center, Lucent Technologies, Siemens, John Deere and Cotton, Inc.

Cary is home to the western campus of the Wake Technical Community College. Cary also enjoys a close proximity to some of the nation’s most prestigious universities, including Duke University, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and North Carolina State University.

In addition to the array of practitioners representing virtually every specialty in the Research Triangle area, Cary, NC residents are served directly by WakeMed Cary Hospital, a 156-bed, full-service hospital with a 770-member medical staff. For the past 30 years, the festival has been recognized as one of the South’s premier events, drawing an estimated 60,000 people to downtown Cary for the best in arts and crafts, food, and entertainment.

Cary enjoys a close proximity to Raleigh, the state capital. As the county seat of Wake County, Raleigh is home to the Wake County Courthouse, located in downtown Raleigh at 316 Fayetteville Street. Cary residents may utilize the Wake County District Court for civil matters where the amount in controversy is $10,000 or less. For civil actions, such as personal injury lawsuits, in which the amount in controversy exceeds $10,000, Cary, NC residents would utilize the Wake County Superior Court.
